On the first Sunday in March, 2008, Covenant Reformed Baptist Church was planted. Planting a new church in an environment of widespread religious hypocrisy, radical individualism, little interest in expository preaching, etc, was always a challenge. But by God’s grace we’ve survived, now own our building (free-and-clear) and have run our evangelistic ministries of Gym, Jr and Gym and social media outreach while continuing to preach the whole counsel of God.
Danville's / Caswell County's Reformed Church
Reformed
We're committed to the doctrines of grace (TULIP), the marks of a healthy church, Sola Scriptura, Biblical worship (including singing Psalms), meaningful membership (including a church covenant), expository preaching through the whole counsel of God, the sovereignty of God, evangelism, etc.
Expository Preaching
For expository preaching come to Covenant or subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Covenant Caswell.
For example, last Sunday’s message:
Confessional
Our statement of faith is based on the 1833 New Hampshire Baptist Confession and the Nicene Creed. Members are required to subscribe. Our pastor is required to generally subscribe to the 1689 London Baptist Confession.
Covenantal
Like the original Baptist churches, our members covenant with God and each other. We have a church covenant to which all members commit. God made a covenant with His people. We’re called to be in covenant relationships with each other, as church members, committed to being in a body, walking together in Christian love. Anyone can visit but members make a covenant.
Christian Education
Since the pandemic, we've provided Christian Education on-line. You can subscribe to it by sending an email to john.berry.carpenter@gmail.com and asking for subscription. Currently, we're studying the The Trinity with R.C. Sproul.
We also have a Chinse Christian Education program: 华语团契: 崇拜時, 屏幕顯示中英對照詩歌和講道大纲.
Evangelism: GYM= Godward Youth Ministry
GYM Jr: Saturdays 2 p.m. (Sept-May), reaching and growing kids (5-12) through fun-filled activities and gospel lessons.
GYM: Sundays 4:00 p.m. For teens (13 and over) and young adults. Our evangelistic out-reach to the youth of the area, partnering with local youth leaders, like "Hoop Don't Shoot."
Commentary & Scholarship
This substack gives you access to the free articles of Dr. John B. Carpenter, like his recent article on The Song of Solomon, published at Warhorn for Valentine’s Day, and his commentary on transgenderism, published last week at Theopolis. Last year, on September 25, his article “Don’t Feed the Play Preachers,” reached #2 on The Gospel Coalition list of recommended articles. You’ll also have access to academic journal articles, like an article on the Puritan economic ethic in the next issue of the Puritan Reformed Journal.
Pastor
Pastor John Carpenter (Ph.D), with his wife, was a former missionary to Ethiopia. He is a student of scripture and a Church historian, focusing on the Puritans, the author of various articles. His book, Seven Pillars of a Biblical Church, was published last year.
