The answers to some questions are obvious.
“It was established by an act of Congress in 1800 as a reference library for Congress.”
“It’s the one-word name of the Ben & Jerry's flavor described as ‘vanilla ice cream with vanilla bean specks’”.
“The logo of this brand depicts an arm holding a hammer.”
“It’s the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution that mentions religion.”
“Leonardo da Vinci was born near this small Tuscan town in 1519.”
The question is not ‘who is your savior?; but ‘how do you know’? By what way did you learn who the savior is?
In the cult of romance, the question, then, is ‘how do I know if I found my one true love?’
Listen:
Provocation (11:1-4)
Nahash’s name means “serpent.” He lays siege to Jabesh-gilead, a city east of the Jordan. The stipulation of the covenant is that Nahash gouge out their right eyes thus bringing disgrace on Israel. Click on the YouTube link above to hear how people make covenants with the serpent today.
Today people agree to make a covenant with the serpent.
Inspiration (11:5-7)
When they tell Saul that the people of Jabesh are willing to make a covenant with the serpent, Saul is inspired. The fruit of the Spirit was to make him angry.
Saul is inspired to be angry because God’s people should never have to suffer the stipulations of a covenant with the serpent.
If a member of our holy nation is under siege, we need to challenge the church to take action. Click on the YouTube video above to listen to how the “holy nation” of the church helps its members under siege.
Salvation (11:8-11)
Imagine, as Saul has finished liberating the city, you are at Jabesh and ask, ‘How do you know who your savior is?’ ‘It’s obvious who our savior is. He’s the one who saved us!’
We can provide reasons people should believe that Jesus is the Savior. But no one will really believe until Jesus saves them.
Coronation (11:12-15)
At the end of chapter 10, worthless fellows scoffed, “How can this man save us?”
Worthless people refuse to recognize what greater people are worth.
Jesus demonstrated His rule by rising from the dead. He announced, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” Click on the YouTube link above to listen to how we know that Jesus is our Savior and King.
The Answer is Obvious
There’s really only one way to know who your savior is. You know by Him saving you. And when He does, you rejoice greatly, along with Him.
