In late 2013, two simultaneous events occurred in evangelicaldom: accusations against Mark Driscoll reached a fever pitch while Ergun Caner, already an exposed fabulist, was hired as the president of a Baptist college. The first led eventually to Driscoll’s downfall and the collapse of a mega-church. The second — though arguably far more newsworthy — barely caused a ripple. Why?
